10 things I learnt from Sex and the City.
Recently, I started to reminisce about the girls way back when — before the motion pictures. Sure, the show is touted for its relationship expertise, and obviously its amazing fashion, but while re-watching the girls in action, I realised each of these bright women has a lot to share in the way of career and life experiences. Sure they’ve made mistakes, but there’s a lesson to be learned from the successes — and dilemmas — we’ve seen played out by our favorite foursome.
- It takes half the time you dated someone to get over them.
- Ugly sex is hot.
- We always seem to be searching for the right man, the right job or the right place to live.
- Seeing each other less = Missing each other more.
- Having it all really means having someone to share it with.
- One woman's Titanic is another woman's Love Boat.
- You never know what's around the corner.
- In the light of day, everything seems different.
- There is never any need to enter Hookerville.
- If youre body is literally rejected the idea of something, ie: Marriage, listen to it.
- You cant be friends with an Ex.
- Most of us are one date away from bitter.
- Relationships take work, but there is that perfect someone out there.
- Back-up Back-up Back-up.
- New York is the best city in the world.
- Women talk about everything.
- Our partners cannot be our everything.
- Its important to breathe and reboot.
- True friends are few and far between.
- In everything, remain true to yourself.
.. A man with a baby/// it doesnt get hotter! ..
“Four years ago, I was just a guy who had a crush on a girl, who had a boyfriend.
And I had to do the hardest thing that I’ve ever had to do, which was just to… wait…
And, a lot of people told me I was crazy to wait this long for a date with a girl I work with but I think, even then I knew that…
.. I was waiting for my wife.”
. . .
I read once that the Egyptians had fifty words for sand & the Eskimos has a hundred words for Snow. I wish I had a thousand words for love, but all that comes to mind is the way you move against me while you sleep.& there are no words for that
.. grown ups have yogurt parties ..
dear babies...
.. I hope you love music like your dad, words like your mama ..
.. and… Travelling like your grandparents, fonts like your Aunt Melissa and crafts like your Aunt Mel ..
… I desire to be this organised! ..
Let It Be? A list of things playing on my mind
Sometimes all it takes is a few chapters of a good book and an hour in the sun to feel ok about things. This list sums up the main thoughts that have been playing on my mind this week…
Finding Your Own Aesthetic Is Difficult.
Designing your own identity is tough - in life and work - as it is uniquely yours and reflects a lot on who you are, who we want to become and how people perceive you. This week I’ve realised that running with the pack doesn’t get you anywhere. If you want to achieve amazing things, you have to adopt a spectacularly different approach. In order to find that leading edge, run against the pack. When others go left, choose right; you might be surprised where it actually takes you.
Karma Is A Force Not To Be Reckoned With.
They say what you did yesterday will bear fruit in what you do and who you are today. This is karma in action. Just because you invest some much energy and emotion into others lives, doesn’t mean you’ll get it back in return. Or does it? The law of cause and effect stats that everything we do, good or bad, has a consequence. So if this is true, I’d like to think that all my good consequences are waiting out there in the universe and will be delivered to me in the name of a handsomely kind man, a stable creative career and a shoe collection that puts Carrie Bradshaw’s to shame.
Real Love IS Hard To Find.
A wise friend once said, “Jenna, you’ve got to try all your pastas before you find your Ravioli.” She’s Italian and I hate pasta, but you get the picture. I am a big believer that the right guy is out there, he has to be. But in the mean time I really am 100% happy preparing myself for him, even if it means tasting a bit of Spaghetti here or Penne there. I think in order for anyone to find real love, you have to develop a sense of who you are and who you want to become. Finding ‘you’ before you fall for him means you will be ready to bring all you need to weather the storm that is falling in love. Why rest for wannabe love, when the real thing is out there? If you’re finding it difficult to shake a feeling of late, don’t just sit on it, act on it.- J xx
